2026 BMW iX2027 Ferrari Luce

Safety

For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Ferrari Luce have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision. The BMW iX doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

The Luce has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The iX doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

To deliver safety and visibility under dusty conditions the Ferrari Luce’s backup monitor has standard front and rear washers to keep the view clear. A camera washer system is only offered on some models of the BMW iX.

Both the Luce and the iX have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all-wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

Warranty

The Luce comes with a full 3-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The iX’s 50,000-mile basic warranty expires sooner.

Ferrari pays for scheduled maintenance on the Luce for 4 years and unlimited miles longer than BMW pays for maintenance for the iX (7/unlimited vs. 3/36,000).

Engine

The Luce’s electric motors produces 633 more horsepower (1035 vs. 402) and 214 lbs.-ft. more torque (730 vs. 516) than the iX xDrive45’s standard electric motors. The Luce’s electric motors produces 499 more horsepower (1035 vs. 536) and 166 lbs.-ft. more torque (730 vs. 564) than the iX xDrive60’s standard electric motors. The Luce’s electric motors produces 385 more horsepower (1035 vs. 650) than the iX M70’s standard electric motors.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Luce’s brake rotors are larger than those on the iX:

Luce

iX

Front Rotors

15.4 inches

13.7 inches

Rear Rotors

14.6 inches

13.6 inches

The Luce has standard heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The iX doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Luce has larger tires than the iX (F:265/35R23 & R:315/30R24 vs. 235/60R20).

The Luce’s 265/35R23 front and 315/30R24 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the iX xDrive45/60’s standard 60 series tires. The Luce’s tires are lower profile than the iX’s optional 35 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Luce has standard 23-inch front and 24-inch rear wheels. Smaller 20-inch wheels are standard on the iX xDrive45/60. The iX’s largest wheels are only 23-inches.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires optional on the Luce can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The iX doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

Suspension and Handling

The Luce offers an available active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. BMW doesn’t offer an active suspension on the iX.

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Luce is 1.1 inches wider in the front than the average track on the iX.

For better maneuverability, the Luce’s turning circle is 5.2 feet tighter than the iX’s (36.8 feet vs. 42 feet).

Chassis

The Ferrari Luce may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 600 to 850 pounds less than the BMW iX.

The design of the Ferrari Luce amounts to more than styling. The Luce has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .254 Cd. That is lower than the iX (.25 to .26) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Luce get better fuel mileage.

The Luce uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The iX doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

Passenger Space

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Luce’s rear seats recline. The iX’s rear seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

A standard locking glovebox keeps your small valuables safer in the Luce. The iX doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the iX, the Luce has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, outside mirror angle, climate settings and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

Heated windshield washer fluid is standard on the Luce to defrost the washer nozzles and quickly clear ice and frost from the windshield without scraping. The iX doesn’t offer heated windshield washer fluid.

The Luce has standard front air conditioned seats and offers them optionally in the rear. This keeps the passengers comfortable and takes the sting out of hot seats in summer. The iX doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

Both the Luce and the iX offer optional massaging front seats. The Luce also offers optional massaging rear seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging rear seats aren’t available in the iX.

The Luce has a 115-volt a/c outlet in the cargo area, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The iX doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.
